Het soepele soultimbre viel eind jaren zeventig al op bij Ace en tijdens zijn passage bij Squeeze, Paul Carrack is bovendien een druk bevraagd pianist. Na een succesvolle periode bij Mike & The Mechanics werkte hij samen met Nick Lowe , er was sessiewerk voor Elton John, Roxy Music en een tournee met Eric Clapton. Sinds 1980 stuurt Carrack solowerk de wereld in, naast dat ‘reguliere’ pop- en rockwerk volgen er registraties met de Royal Philharmonic Orchestra en regelmatig duiken projecten met de SWR Big Band op.
