Na een gevarieerde muzikale voorgeschiedenis, Carrack figureerde bij Ace, Squeeze, Mike and the Mechanics, bouwde de Britse multi-instrumentalist een meer dan behoorlijke solocarrière uit. Geen wereldschokkende spectaculaire toestanden maar een oerdegelijk afwisselend persoonlijk oeuvre dat op achttien langspelers te beluisteren is en waarop hij met zijn soepele soulvolle stemtimbre als blijkvanger het begrip ‘blue eyed soul’ op onnavolgbare wijze consolideert. Dat is weerom het  geval op het met de nodige vertraging uitgebrachte One On One. Carrack tekende niet alleen voor het songwerk, naast de productie zorgde  hij nagenoeg in zijn eentje voor de instrumentale invulling tijdens een gedwongen ‘rustpauze’ in de Corona periode in zijn huisstudio.
