Optreden lukte maar mondjesmaat, de afgelopen twee jaar. Dat zorgde er echter wel voor dat Paul Weller aan het releasefront opvallend actief was. Twee vertrouwd goede albums zagen het levenslicht, On Sunset (2020) en Fat Pop (2021), en nu is er alweer An Orchestrated Songbook, een album dat hij in mei 2021 in Londen opnam met het BBC Symphony Orchestra. Dat lijkt wellicht wat veel van het goede, zeker als je in ogenschouw neemt dat Weller een kleine drie jaar geleden nog de (drie)dubbelaar Other Aspects uitbracht, waarop hij samenspeelde met The London Metropolitan Orchestra. Toch verdient deze nieuwe bloemlezing wel aandacht. Het songboek van Weller bestrijkt immers 45 jaar...
